Although this tool doesn't guarantee any direct increase in search engine rankings, it can help Google's website crawler more accurately index your website.

Google's Sitemap Tool provides information such as:

• Crawl Information - Ensuring Google's crawler can access your site.
• Top Website Content - Information about popular content on your site and the keywords that other websites use to link to it.
• Popular Queries - Information about the queries that drive traffic to your website.
• Google Index Information - Details about what pages of your site are currently indexed.

Yahoo also provides a similar submission technique, but based on flat text files as opposed to XML files.
